Get Up and Get Moving Into the Word

The Presiding Bishop in her sermon on Sunday Morning encouraged those in attendance to get up and get moving into the world. It was a good sermon and then we went back to work and I realize how hard that is going to be for us. Two examples from yesterday's legislative session. We have not debated many of the "hot button" topics that will come before the house in some form. Many of the discussion to date have dealt with "motherhood and apple pie" issues. This I think is part of the problem we face. To many resolutions that do not need to come before the house. Two in particular: One dealing with naming September Lay Ministry Month and the other enocuraging every parish to practice holy habits during Eastertide. Well as I sat listening to good faithful people debate the merits of these issues,I thought, "Ought we not to practice these things every day?" Each day we are to encourage one another in ministry and spiritual practices ought not to be limited to one season of the year. We have four more days of legislatve session with many important issues to come,it will be a long for days if we get bogged down with these kinds of resolutions. Get Up and Get Moving.

  1. Isn't that the way David? We always get bogged down in the simplistic stuff -- probably because we are putting off what really needs to be worked on.

  2. As I've watched the live video feed of the legislative sessions I'm left pondering whether I yearn to be there or to vow to never go near the GC. Although I've urged my parishioners to tune in and have passed along the web addresses, I can't help but cring at times as I wonder what they must be thinking as huge amounts of time are given over to relatively unimportant or irrelevant proposals. The old saying appears to be true: There are two things that might cause a person to lose their appetite - 1) watching sausage being made, and 2) legislatures engaged in debate. Keep on blogging when you can find a moment. It's good to hear the prespective from someone who's in the thick of it.
